UN Votes Against Protecting Gays from Execution

This is a mirror, and a very important one at that. The UN, inspired strongly by huge amounts of votes from Africa and the Middle East, has voted to remove 'sexual orientation' from their list of things that constitute unlawful reasons for execution. And it's racist to call these parts of the world backwards? Fuck it, they are!

Which would be hundreds and hundreds of years ago- it was justified to be backwards then. And yes, of course Islamic imperialism is bad, but many of the countries who voted this down were slavishly christian ones in africa, so this isn't about Islam or Christianity, just religion in general.

No, I think it is you who needs to understand. Iran (to use the example you said) has a high proportion of religion. It has a high proportion of religion because it is scientifically (and, some may argue, culturally) backwards. This backwardness is from imperialism. They kill gays and lesbians because of religion. Therefore, yes, INDIRECTLY imperialism is to blame for this.

@ourhandsaretied i'm not talking about system of governance, i'm talking about moral ethics. You have to understand that not every country out there is at the same stage of moral development as us (the West). We have come far as a culture in our tolarance for others who do not share the same beliefs as us, if you think about it not too long ago we were burning heretics alive and now we're not. So your saying that fact that Iran kills gays and lesbians is because of imperialism? Give me a break.

Not sure I agree with that 100%. You've got to remember that it is the fault of the imperialist oppressors of history (i.e. the modern 'first world'), not to mention the system of capitalism, that they are in this backward state in the first place.
