MTV Icon was all about what blink-182 did here.
The "Icons" got celebrated by MTV and popular musicians like blink-182 covered their songs. The coolest thing about that was playing those covers in a way the band would do (e.g. like blink-182 in poppunk-style or limp bizkit in numetal-style). It was not about sounding exactly like the "Icons". Just watch a few performances from Metallica's MTV Icon show.
Blink-182 did a very good job!
Btw: Robert Smith was on blink's album and they are friends!

i definitely have an appreciation 4 The Cure as they have really made an impact in music & culture. but i like blink-182 better. i havent heard The Cure's version of this song but blink-182's version of this song kicks so much ass all thru-out it. rock on man!
