Things to improv on:
1. stable camera movement, not so jagged.
2. fewer closeups
3. Really dig into the acting. There were moments where I felt both people were holding back, afraid to act maybe out of awkwardness or embarrassment. The white guy's death was unrealistic.
Otherwise, it was easy to get into the story because of the good film quality. It did look like an indie film and separate from Hollywood filming styles, but that's really not a big deal. Good music use and placement too.

wait this is not the Vixia HV40????

Hi. Can you use shotgun mics for this camera? What did you use for a mic?
-
stunning :)

Still looks too much like video, not enough film look. Otherwise really superb. Features are in your future.

Not bad. Some stuff needed work I think. I'm not a pro so don't take anything I say completely to heart but the lighting needed some more work (but I understand limitations) and it was quite a bit too shaky in some spots. Even a homemade stabilizer would have helped a lot (I assume it was all handheld as that's how it looks). Also, the focusing was off a bit. I'm sure you know that. I don't know if you intended it or not but I think it should have been in focus more often. But great story though

whatd u use for lighting?
-
What font did you use in the beginning of the video and where did you get it from?
-
Fabulous!
-
Did you use the Cine Mode recording program in conjunction with native 24p setting?
-
how is the footage stored?
-
Did you use any other mic system other than what's on the HV40?
-
Dude wonderful job. Only thing I would say is you need more lighting because the canon hv40 looks superb with the right lighting. It really brings out the HD. But seriously that was fantastic. Way to prove you can make a great film with a consumer camera.

damn nathan that was dope.

@nsmith345 Well, I was working for a Company where I used Nikon D200. But now I want to get my own , those are not mine, I had a Minolta but I like Nikon better. I'm in San Diego now but I want to get some projects in Mexico, I know I'll do just fine. That's what I want the HV40 for, to video the photo session.
Thanks for the good advice.

@netofujarte I use Final Cut Pro, but I didn't really manipulate any of the footage in post. Just make sure you white balance, set the exposure/iso, all that good stuff.
-
@nsmith345 ..Great !! Good job.
I´m a Photographer and I want to shoot my photosessions but I want them to look with this quality. I just downloaded Cyberlnk PowerDirector, I'm new on this. What Software do you suggest?
-
@netofujarte Thanks for the compliment! I had the camera set on manual focus the entire time, no exterior lenses or filters were used. As for the lighting, I only had two studio lights which I used sparingly.
-
Nice!! This is the best Short Film with the HV-40 I've seen so far.
Please tell me about the lenses, filters and lighting you used.
I would appreciate you tell me.
Thank you.
Was AF activated for these shots, or - by any chance - were you using the IRV Design focus ring?

what were your capture settings in FCP to capture native 24p?. everytime I try it I captures at 29.7 fps. regardless of my capture settings. from the HV40

@johnils1
Once you open FCP, go to the very top bar of the computer. There should be a tab that says "Final Cut Pro." Click it, and then click on "Easy Setup." A box will pop up. Leave the "Format" and "Rate" selections at "all formats" and "all rates." Where it says, "Use," scroll down until you find "HDV - 1080p25 FireWire Basic." That should do the trick. Hope that helps.

Were you able to capture native 24p with Final Cut Pro without jumping through a lot of compressor hoops?

@johnils1 Yes, I was able to capture native 24p into Final Cut Pro without using any compressors.
