4 Man Baton Pass

Four skydivers pass a metal tube called a baton from person to person while in freefall. This is a no contact dive and freeflown exit. Very good fall rate training. This is how relative work was born.

I just started skydiving a few months ago.

I'm amazed that baton passing is legal as should somebody fumble and drop it, it could kill somebody below. Is there a particular way in which the risks are managed or is it a case of 'tough luck'.

@The85pHotpot We don't do "Tough Luck". When we take something into freefall with us that could hurt someone if dropped, we take a line of flight over a huge empty field so that if we do lose the baton, it won't hurt anyone. We had our own pass for this jump also.

A metal baton? I'd hurt myself with that thing on the ground. Why did Velardo cinch the little lower chute up after it slid down?
