"Perry Mason"-Influencer Of Judges And Senators

It apparently wasn't just a TV show, "Perry Mason" was a call for people to become Supreme Court Justices and Senators.

During Sonia Sotomayor's Supreme Court nomination hearing she told Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) that "Perry Mason" influenced her greatly.

Later in the hearing, Senator Al Franken (D-MN) says he was a big "Perry Mason" fan too... and asks if Sotomayor can remember the one case Perry Mason lost.

Neither Franken or Sotomayor could remember the case. But our intrepid researchers tell us Perry mason lost "The Case of the Deadly Verdict." 10/17/1963. But it wasn't his fault. His client withheld evidence needed to win.

Franken incorrectly states the prosecutor Burger lost every week with only 1 exception. Burger didn't even face Mason as an opponent in 25% of the episodes. On one show, Burger was a consultant for Mason's defense!
