The Persian Empire was one of the most mysterious civilizations in the

ancient world. Persia became an empire under the Cyrus the Great, who

created a policy of religious and cultural tolerance that became the

hallmark of Persian rule. Engineering feats include an innovative

system of water management; a cross-continent paved roadway stretching

1500 miles; a canal linking the Nile to the Red Sea; and the creation

of one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Mausoleum of Maussollos.

The rivalry between Persia and Athens led to a 30-year war known as the

Persian Wars, the outcome of which helped create the world we live in

today. Peter Weller hosts.

  • @PhamvanDong hi, which battle are you referring to? On the contrary xerxes was abriliant king and he is one of the kings that brought glory to akamanid dinesty. If he was not as capable and visionary leader he woldn't be able to to the things explained in this clip. Even Greeks have a lot of respect for him, then and now! He made one big mistake and that was burning of Acropolise. As th why he did it, no one is sure!

  • @wwbehrouz: an a little bit mad.

he let the seas whip and torture to prevent future ship losses before crossing the hellespont ;)

  • 9:00 min "wooden crane" to lift up tons....STFU!

  • @persian802 thankyou spokesman of all persians, also why are persians fags?

  • This was a painful defeat and turnaround for the persians, and all because of a stupid man, Xerxes. He's the reason and cause of the persian empire fall. He had the greatest military army in the world, and yet lost battles brutally. It's sad how a great empire like persia, so advanced and developed, fell because of a stupid and incapable leader.

  • This is a bit off-topic but the guy playing Xerxes is kinda cute... Okay, that aside, I find the ancient Persians very interesting people. Their architecture amazes me, and I'd love to visit some of their sites someday.

  • @persian802 Barbarians were all the other nations that have different language from the greeks...cause in the ears fo the greeks sounds barb barb barb (the strange different noise of not understading laguage)...so all the others were barbarians....Barbarians not only the people that came from tha caves....people for example Persians that they are also civilazed and equal to the greeks...WE HAD SOME WARS...SHIT HAPPES...BUT ALWAYS GREEK PEOPLE LOVES AND ADMIRE PERSIANS...EVEN THE ALEXANDER THE G!

  • @persian802 True
