http://www.scene-stealers.com Scene-Stealers Editor-in-Chief Eric Melin and a gaggle of guest reviewers take on Zack Snyder's (300, Watchmen) latest cinematic assault, the girl-powered action fantasy Sucker Punch. Will Snyder's fetish for stylized sexuality and violence translate into something bigger than the sum of its pop art influences? Find out in this review of Sucker Punch (2011) starring Emily Browning, Vanessa Hudgens, Jena Malone, and Carla Gugino.
I don't quite think these guys "got" the movie...

Afraid my mind was made up to avoid this flick once I'd seen the trailer, and after viewing the movie I think most people felt a lil sucker punched.

@SceneStealers that is an interesting perspective but I disagree. watchman was about Superheroes who where pressured to become ordinary by society. some of them abused there power and some tried to become God as a result. all Snyder did was fill what happened inbetween panels for the movie. Sequential artists have to convey a whole scene in just a few panelsMovies don't have that limitation. sounds like to me you already had your mind made up about Snyder before you even seen suckerpunch.

@godhandninja Oh boy. Now you've opened a whole can of worms. Watchmen was just like Sucker Punch in that the movie's style was completely antithetical to the point it was supposed to be making. There are no superpowers among any of the heroes (outside of Dr. M), yet they were shot 100% like they had them. This undermines the entire story, because its supposed to be about normal people who are psychologically disturbed enough to put on costumes and fight crime. Snyder's fetish again ruining it.

@SceneStealers aw come on man! You know one of the reasons its tanking at the box office is because of all the bad reviews its getting. And anyway how does it tanking mean that people don't like it. don't people have to see it first in order to decide wether they like it or not. Watchman was pretty much done like the graphic novel except for the end. so what do you mean he had the same problem. He stayed as true to the source material as he could for a movie. 300 was the same. explain please.

@godhandninja No problem there: I got what he was trying to say and that theme doesn't work because of the way he told the story. Simple as that. Same problem with Watchmen. I think Snyder is incapable of staying consistent with any theme,. His fetishes are always at odds with the storytelling. I don't think you should start critic-bashing. It's not just critics that think the movie is terrible; it's tanking at the box office too...

@spiral16software first you say that you "got" it but then you say "it didn't work". I think you might be a little confused. It worked just fine. The self-realization was never tacked on before or after. If you pay attention to what going on you can see that it is all throught the movie. Honestly, the only thing the movie did was not spell it out for its audience. Although I'm sure if it did then critics would complain that it insulted there intelligence. There is just not pleasing some people.

the films far-fetched, the characters were bland and the dialouge sucked. the story was so lame and pointless, and unfortunately, the fantasy world has NOTHING to do with the story, better luck next time, zack snyder

@godhandninja Whether the self-realization motif in the film was tacked on before or after Snyder first imagined the script idea doesn't really matter, because it didn't work. I applaud the fact that he tried to make something more out of it than a skimpy-outfitted-hotties-kicking-ass movie, but I maintain that he failed because that idea is completely at odds with what we were presented. I "got" what he was going for -- it just didn't work.
