Ashlei N. Ernsberger, age 24, of Mansfield, Ohio passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2011 from injuries received in an automobile accident. She was born on June 20, 1987 in Columbus, daughter of Carrie (Gerrard) and Mike Gaumer of Fredericktown and David (Patricia) Hurd of Newark.
Ashlei was known throughout Knox County and the state of Ohio for her horse showing ability, having won numerous awards in 4-H. She qualified and placed in the top 10 multiple times at the Ohio State Fair and the All American Youth Horse Shows over the years. She also qualified and placed in the all but two of the State Level 4-H horse events. She studied French all four years of high school and in her senior year, she also took Spanish. Ashlei enjoyed traveling and scrapbooking with her family and friends. Within the last year, she found a new passion for flowers and photography. Ashlei was a great coach and mentor to her brother, Nick when he started barrel racing this year. After marrying Adam in 2007, Ashlei was open minded to try new things, being a country girl and keeping a beautiful home. Ashlei will be remembered as great leader and a friend who was always there to lend a helping hand.
In addition to her parents, Ashlei is survived by her husband, Adam Ernsberger, whom she married on July 7, 2007; her brother, Nick Gaumer, who unfortunately succumb to his injuries from the accident; maternal grandparents, Janet Gerrard and Dale (Karen) Gerrard; great grandmother, Rene Gerrard; aunts and uncles, Robin (Shawn) Gerrard McCabe, Phil (Mary Morningstar)Gerrard, Rick (Connie) Gaumer, Stephen Gaumer, Jeff (Karen) Gaumer, Brian Gaumer, Cathy (Jim) Denuit; father and mother-in-law, Dan and Laura Ernsberger; brother-in-law, Keith and his wife and Ashlei's best friend Stacie Ernsberger; step sister, Erin Reeves; her canine companion, Lillie; her canine companion Beautiful and Gorgeous Belle, who also succumb to her injuries from the accident; her horse, Critter; and several nieces and cousins.
Ashlei was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Carl and Barbara Hurd, step grandparents, Williard and Jeanne Gaumer; and an aunt, Debbie Hurd.
