This isn't directed at channels with regular episodes, lots of subscribers, or production value. This is aimed at guys like me. Guys who just want to vent, or share a thought. The random video showing some vehicular achievement, or a clever way to fold a shirt. The 30-second and under video that will never go viral and hit a million views in a week. Please, quit putting those stupid ads in your video. We, the viewers, don't click on 'em. I'll actually thumbs down your video because you stuck the ad in there.

Don't be an idiot. Do you really think your home movie is going to get you paid?

  • The things is, we can all just click the X on the banner ads to make them go away. The revenue which video makers earn encourages them to keep making videos. Just like commercials on Television the ads make this site possible. No one works for free and that includes Google/Youtube. People who make videos which others enjoy deserve to be compensated for their work don't you think? Free enterprise rocks!

  • @TheTacticalView So, I'm guessing you haven't read a single comment, reply, or what I've typed as the description of the video. I'm all for free enterprise. My contention is that ad space and sales should be reserved for people making a living at this or at least putting some work into their videos. Ads in crappy videos less than 20 seconds long and uploaded from phones just comes across as panhandling. (I'm well aware of how revenue works, but thanks for the refresher, I guess...)

  • @floatingaxehead Also, you seem not to understand how Youtube works. I don't put ads on my videos. Youtube does that based on what they consider to be "content". (translated as what people want to watch) A video doesn't need to have millions of hits to be content worth watching. Or worth revenue sharing. But again, if you don't like videos with ads, don't watch them. Just like televisioni, if you don't like commercials, don't watch the shows which have them. Subscribe to HBO or something.

  • @TheTacticalView I will freely admit, my understanding of YouTube ads extends only as far as they've offered revenue sharing to me, and I won't accept because I don't want the eyesore in my videos. Frankly, I get sick of clicking the little X to close 'em, and actually purchased AdBlock because it works well and is a worthwhile product- I felt he desevered to be compensated for his work. Do ads pay if they're not clicked on? (I agree quality content vs number of views are not the same thing.)

  • @floatingaxehead I don't know. Even though I am partnered on my other channel, (SmokeRingsPipeDreams) I must admit how the revenue works as far as that goes I am not sure. A partner has a little control over what kind of ads they can show, and what kind, but not a whole lot.

  • @TheTacticalView I will say, you have me considering monetizing my other channel since I like to keep my podcast free of commercial interests. (I like being able to say whether or not a gun sucks or is great without sponsorship clouding the issue.)

  • Hasn't anybody ever heard of Ad Block Plus??? I use it with Firefox and I haven't seen an ad on Youtube, Facebook, etc. ever since.

  • @TheTacticalView

Personally, I don't like it when advertisement is forced down my throat. It makes me HATE the company, which means I don't buy their product.

When that happens, it means their publicity department should be FIRED. Why? Because they FAILED at their job of getting more customers.

You don't catch flies with vinegar, like the saying goes.

  • How much money do people make off the ads? I'm curious at what point would it be worthwhile, 10,000 views? 100,000 views?

  • Your opinion means crap

  • @floatingaxehead Well and one way of looking at it (aside from getting some extra income which we could all use) is that by allowing ads on your videos Youtube will make some dough, which will support other peoples Youtube channels which do not have ads on them. It much cost Youtube a pretty penny to store the millions of videos on this site. Many of which have no ads and are free to the people who start the channel. I would hate to see the day when we have to pay a monthly fee to have a one.

  • Great video.

  • @floatingaxehead By the way, i doubt that A) is B.S. My other channel is partnered. I don't have millions of views and yet I get a check every month. It's not large, but based on what the views of other channels are who are partnered I can estimate what they make. Maybe you are not aware, for some of these dudes it is thousands a month. And I'm not talking about the most famous Youtubers.
