@EBB47 Sparring really isn't a sport fight, or imposing, or for money. It is two consenting martial artists testing themselves and what they have learned full contact. It helps them learn and it makes them better by opening them up to new methods as well as experiencing being hit.

@TheTerrorUforgot any wing chun fighter in a ring is not thinking the right way... it's not a sport fight its a fight when someone is trying to hustle you for your money, or is imposing that they are going to hurt you. A fast 7 second fight for your life. Alot of the guys that have videos on here fighting other people aren't good and don't have the right foot work to do so. It's complicated... Try wing chun vs TKD (first result) probably the only guy i consider good on youtube

@EBB47 So should I just find a Wing Chun vs Boxing spar and see how they match up? I've sparred WC coming from a TKD and kickboxing background, but never tried a pure hands approach.
-
@TheTerrorUforgot it depends... if the straight lands solid the source of the hook becomes disrupted.. you'd get hit maybe but it would probably miss the target... But in wing chun it simple against a hook.. Keep the other hand up while punching with other hand... There's many videos on this good and bad. Train train train! This is Self Offense ... the goal is to hit the opponent before he makes his move.
-
@EBB47 So you're saying a Wing Chun practitioner is always faster than another striker's punches? That is a little presumptuous... I also see a lot of punches in this chi sao that go directly to the other's raised chin. Won't a hook in motion keep going for the chin instead of stop?
-
@TheTerrorUforgot form is FUNCTION and MECHANICS... I knew what you mean from the git go about hiding the chin but in wing chun... you're always a step ahead of the other guy so if a guy throws a hook then wing chun throws a straight blast... gets there before the hook everytime. Look i'm sorry if i sound stupid... if you look further into Wing chun... especaily Emin Bozetepe then i think you'd start to understand that we don't need to.
-
@TheTerrorUforgot because it affects the wing chun form and other things.

@reptile202 I doubt "only a handful of the world's population" is that fast. The only difference between the person in the video and anyone else in the world is practice and dedication. Furthermore, saying one art is better than the other is like saying swing dance is better than tap dance. The quality of the dance depends solely on the dancer, so comparing the two forms is both impossible and unnecessary.
