A zinc and iodine mixture reacts exothermically when water is added. The heat generated causes excess iodine to undergo sublimation, shown by the purple vapor given off during the course of the reaction.

    Yes - it's in the test tube.

  • The gas is toxic,

    and it is iodine, but when it being heated up, it will start to make be gas.

    I mean: it goes from solid phase to gas phase.
