I love how droopy basset hounds get, so floppy and cute :)

He does NOT need to shed ANY pounds...he's perfectly plump for me! Gorgeous all over!

That basset is overweight. I've had two. A trim basset can run and play very easily and stairs are zero problem (until old age). Ours plays very well with our boxer and sprints around outside and swims very well. People like their bassets to be fat, but its not good for them. A trim basset is a happy, long lived basset.

@widowhlper there go my dreams of having a basset :) i already have a labradoodle with a bum acl ligament and nooo way do i want to bother with that again..or maybe my dog just purposfully makes me feel bad for him he's very smart that way :)

My Basset likes to climb and is a trim 47lbs. Stairs are no problem. She also likes to run.

My mum has two bassets and that one is overweight. Like every dog breed they should still have a clearly defined waist line from above. He doesn't. Hes clearly happy and loved but is definitely overweight, I hate that people think Bassets are "supposed" to be fat, they have enough strain on thier joints and back without extra weight

Bassets are an asset !!! I love Henry....he is so cute.

That's what my bassets do!

He's just big built and adorable. Keep em coming. :-) I have a girl basset that is on the petite side.
cute basset but he should lose some weight.

he's actually not overweight. hard to believe, i know, but he is the correct weight for a bassett.

aww, stairs are actually really bad for bassetts--causes hip and back probs. is it possible to keep his food/bed on the same ground-level floor? adorable though :-)

you'll be happy to know that we have an elevator in our house and he rides up and down on it. this was a rare exception.

For serious? Or...are you joking ;-) ?
I know in some homes it's impossible to avoid stairs--my relatives have a bi-level & they also have 2 bassets so stair-hopping is a daily event (even though there's really nothing of interest to the dawgs in the basement, they want to check it out anyway).

For Serious. The elevator was not put in for him, but it is definitely a benefit. He actually does have lower back problems. Two herniated disks to be exact. Stairs are actually really bad for bassetts. The effects may not show up when their young, but they will certainly catch up with them as they get older.
