I have to keep breathing... For tomorrow the Sun will rise. who knows what the tide would bring?

Here's the last Dialog from the movie CASTAWAY, which has never failed to inspire me...


(Background - (summary of what happened through out the movie) - The Main Character in the movie is in love with a woman named Kelly and they both are going to marry soon. He has to travel abroad on the company plane, for some work. He promises Kelly, that he will marry her as soon as he comes back from the trip. Kelly gifts him with a family heirloom - a pocket watch with her photo in it...
On the way the plane crashes into the sea. The main character is the only person to survive the crash and finds himself marooned on a small lonely island. No human lives on the island and the island is too small for any ship to notice it and pass by. So no one knows he is there and he is totally alone. All he has is Kelly's Gift with her photo in it, as the only memory of his home and his life...
He lives on the island for 4 years. Then one day the tide brings in a big piece of a boat/plane's body, which could be used as a sail. So he builds a raft, attaches the sail to it and sails out of that godforsaken island. He is discovered on the sea by a ship. He is rescued and he recovers his health. He returns back home to find that Kelly, whose memories had kept him alive on that lonely island, has married someone else, thinking he was dead.
He goes to meet her, late in the night. Kelly confesses that she still loves him. She is ready to go with him anywhere. So they both sit in his car. But Kelly hesitates. He reads her mind and tells her that she has to look after her children and her family. She agrees, and they part ways, never to meet again.
The Hero comes back home. He is sitting with his friend, holding a drink in his hand, and telling him the following ---- )


"Kelly had to let me go
....
....
I knew I had lost her then (4 yrs back) because I was never going to get off that Island.
I was going to die there. Totally alone.
I was sick, scared, injured.
The only choice I had - the only thing I CONTROLLED - was when, and how, and where it was going to happen...
So...
I made a rope... and went up to the summit (a cliff, with a single tree at it's very edge) to hang myself.
I had to test it you know...of course, you know me...
(He tests it by tying a heavy log to the rope and letting it hang by the tree)
AND THE WEIGHT... OF THE LOG... SNAPPED... THE LIMB OF THE TREE....
So I-I--I couldn't even kill my self the way I wanted to. I.. HAD.. POWER.. OVER.. NOTHING.
....
....
....
That's when this feeling came over me - like a warm blanket.
I knew, somehow, I had to stay alive. Somehow... I had to keep breathing... Even though there was no reason to hope...
And all my logic said that I would never see this place (his home) again.
So thats what I did... I stayed alive. I kept breathing...
And one day that logic was proved all wrong, because the tide came in and gave me a sail.
And now here I am. Back in Memphis. Talking to you. I have ice in my Glass...!!! (looks at the Ice in his glass with wonder)

And I have lost her all over again...

I am so sad that I dont have Kelly. but I am so grateful that she was not with me on that island.

And I know what I have to do now... I have to keep breathing...
Because TOWORROW THE SUN WILL RISE...Who knows what the Tide could bring..."


(And so he lived on...)

@FunnyLimbo i´ve listen to this song every single day since i watched this movie, remembering this scene all days, and no matter what, i´m always positive, if anything goes bad, i just relax, I keep breathing, i wait for tomorrow, so the Sun will rise, and... who knows what the tide would bring? :D

Breathtaking movie, terrific history, incredible soundtrack and the best actor! what could we wait from that? Nothing less than ispiration and a leasson learned! Thank you Tom.. thank you "CAST AWAY"

@TheBrett78 whatever works for u man, good luck with ur journey. but all I have to say is its not sumthing that u try. and basicaly u dont know for sure there isnt a god do u...I just think people like u r too lazy and weak to want to believe there is a reason to have self control and do the right things. It takes real balls and character to believe in sumthing that u cant see and alot of people make light of and dont believe.

And its fuckin pathetic..its just funny that 95% of people dont know shit about life (including me) and they deny the existance of god cause they say it doesnt make sense..if u ask me, nothing makes more sense.
