If you want to hear Earl Bostic really exhibit his complete mastery of the alto, then find a copy of his "Bugle Call Rag". You won't believe the improvisation Earl could put out . He played alto at another level. dixiejak

Earl Palmer played drums for Earl Bostic. Bill Jones was a singer with him. I used to dance to his music in high school. I always loved his playing. Thanks for posting this stuff. Just swings!

What can one say about his command of an instrument that is asy to play badly. Brilliant.

He really knew his instrument Top to Bottom ,, left to right .. inside out.. there will never be another Bostic..

Yep, that's Bull Moose Jackson. I can't believe they made such a mistake.

Isn't that Bull Moose Jackson?
When I first heard Earl Bostic's sax I was in high school in the 50s, I couldn't stop listening. Same thing today, some 50+ years later. Man, What a horn!

Every dance at my high school in the mid-50's used to end with "Harlem Nocturne." It's been a dream of mine for many years to get a copy of Earl Bostic's version. My all-time favourite piece of music!
