  • WEST SMILEY 2012

  • @soccerguy - "Fuck! He's against gay marriage! I'll have to reconsider my vote in 2012."

Your statement is technically but not completely accurate,... This vid discussion was prior to his first election in 2008. He indicated since then that he was re-thinking his position and this has led to his support of gay marriage in various positions including refusal to support DOMA. I guess you can feel free now to support him 100% with no further criticism or additional reflection

  • @PurrGrrl Sorry, I failed earlier to answer one of your questions. No, I would not want to live in a third-world country. But regardless of where I lived, I would take a job in a “sweatshop” in a heartbeat if that were the best deal available. People work voluntarily in these places because then they can take advantage of the market’s division of labor to get the things they need rather than struggling to grow their own food, make their own clothes, etc. They don’t do it “just to be employed.”

  • @PurrGrrl Yes I have. Have you experienced the pressure of being responsible for the income stream of employees and, indirectly, the wellbeing of their families? I have paid people more than their work was worth and I have continued to pay them when I didn’t have enough work for them, and the market punished me (and them) severely for those do-gooder mistakes. Nobody wants to answer my question: Are they better off if I'm out of business and they are unemployed?

  • @PurrGrrl You always have to ask, “Compared to what?” People work in what egalitarians call “sweatshops” because it is better than the alternatives available to them. They are making a voluntary exchange. As long as they are free to walk away, how are they harmed?

  • @rwalkenhorst I've been working since I was a kid & am very familiar w/how much profit many of my employers have taken in, their operating expenses vs. their incoming profits, etc.,& most employers can well afford to pay their employees more. They simply choose not to 'cause they're maximizing their profits. Wd u like to live in a 3rd world country &work in a sweatshop just so that you'll be employed? Have u ever worked for someone else?

  • @rwalkenhorst @rwalkenhorst Your argument shows lack of knowledge of how business is conducted in the US. Have you ever worked for other ppl? Employers don't "go broke" by paying employees decent wages. In fact, many corporations are outsourcing labor to 3rd world countries where they pay 'em tiny wages YET the prices of the items they sell back to us are still outrageously high! Because they know there r ppl like u who'll pay the high prices ...And the US govt gives those corps tax breaks

  • @rwalkenhorst First of all, no one learns labor history in high school. I learned these things on my own. And guess what, these books were not provided by or approved by the government. You simplistic douchebag. Secondly, you cited nothing and made no valid point. Your questions are dumb and logically invalid. It is not an either/or choice. Go and buy a fucking brain and insert it in your empty skull and use it.
