  • Just to play is safe I always undo the fill plug first before I drain.... just extra insurance incase the fill plug has a problem coming out. You don't want to drain the transfer case and then not be able to add fluid.

It doesnt really matter what you use. For older Jeeps like the ZJ grand cherokee's or Cherokee's they were built to run on dextron 2. You can use Dextron 3 in it, or ATF+4.

  • aaaaaand that is theeeee PROPer procedure forrrrr filling your transfer case.

  • the manual transmission takes the dealer fluid only its a special motor oil with syncromesh additives expensive stuff the transfer case would be best to use atf+4 and thats also how I did our dakota

  • you can use either these transfer cases where in dodges and chevys but atf+4 is a better more shear stable oil and is fully synthetic

  • What i meant to say is:

The DEALER said to use ATF+4

The Repair Manual said to use Dextron II

    Who is right?

    I have a 97 jeep wrangler 4.0L Sport with a 231 J transfer case... THANKS BUNCHES...
