This video concerns the public forum held in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, on May 4, 2010, to discuss the anticipated impact of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill on northwest Florida beaches. State Senator Don Gaetz, along with representatives from BP oil company, the United States Coast Guard, and the state Department of Environmental Protection were to be among the speakers at the meeting.

The chosen meeting room at the Okaloosa County School District Administrative Building at 120 Lowery Place S.E. in Fort Walton Beach was far too small to accomodate all the local citizens who wished to attend the meeting, and the many people packed in the hallway were extremely uncomfortable due to the heat. Most left, very disappointed not to be able to hear the speakers.

The very large turn out of private citizens reflects the high level of anxiety in our area about the impact of the oil spill on our beaches. Those who live on the beach and/or earn their livelihood there are especially concerned. It is a shame the place chosen for the meeting was not large enough to accomodate all who wanted to attend.
