DEIFIED HEBRAIC CARPENTERIAL BLUES
copyright © 1990-1994 by Eben Brooks

Well, I was feelin' kinda stressed out in heaven on high
I thought I'd take a little stroll, look out through someone else's eyes
Take a look at how the world had changed in a couple o' thousand years

Well, I chose an unbeliever 'cause I thought it might be fun
To see how the other side lives when their day at work is done,
To get a chance to laugh a real laugh and to cry some real tears.

'Cause I been hangin' on a cross for twenty centuries;
It's enough to make a god wanna beg on his knees.
I feel so bad down to my lack of shoes;
I got the Deified Hebraic Carpenterial Blues.

I saw so many new things in this American land,
And I think all this technology is gettin' outta hand—
I mean, you wouldn't catch me tryin' to talk on the phone while I was drivin' my car.
And we walked past a church dedicated to me and Dad,
And I said, "You know, those Romans always did overdo things a tad,"
And when a beggar asked us for some change, we walked past him into a bar.

'Cause healin' the sick and helpin' blind men see—
You know I haven't had a day off since A.D. 33?
I feel so bad down to my lack of shoes;
I got the Deified Hebraic Carpenterial Blues.

Later on he took me to a circle where they worshipped other gods.
It was thirteen of them to one of me; I didn't like those odds.
They could sense my presence, and I could tell they didn't want me around.
But I put aside my hesitance and wore a pleasant face.
But when they started makin' jokes about my Dad and my race,
I said, "Hey, I'm kinda new at this god business, but I think I know what's goin' down. (You know what I mean?)"

I mean, uniting old enemies and tearing down walls—
Who'd'a thought that I would just get kicked in the balls (again!)
I feel bad down to my lack of shoes;
I got the Deified Hebraic Carpenterial Blues.

Well, I'd seen enough. I didn't want to be rude,
But I said, "Get me outta here, Dad. These are some weird dudes!"
So I vacated the body, and I left him in the middle of a Bailey's Irish Cream.
But my unexpected merger has him going through a phase:
The inspiration's hit him, and he hasn't slept in days.
Even unbelievers see God—all you gotta do is dream!

But I left this place with no speed to spare.
I'm goin' back to Daddy's house. It's a lot safer there.
I feel so bad down to my lack of shoes;
I got the Deified Hebraic Carpenterial Blues.

I never thought that Savior was the role I would choose;
I got the Deified Hebraic Carpenterial Blues.

I feel that even as a god, I'm destined to lose!
I got the Deified Hebraic Carpenterial Blues.
