More and more children in Wales are going to Welsh medium schools. They are the future of the language, but what do they really think about the language and exactly how much Welsh do they speak and use outside the school gates? With an exclusive new survey of young people's opinions on the future of the language, David Williams explores the complexities of a bi-lingual Wales and the tangled Welsh Knot.

  • The process of mastering a foreign language has benefits that go far beyond that narrow subject matter, and of course this language isn't foreign at all.

Badges of shame wouldn't work well here in the states... We'd wear them with honor...

  • @elviolette In America, there are also native languages, but there are too many to learn and I guess most of them are in their dying breed.

  • Makes me SO upset...that English was forced upon so many people....so many places have lost their own language do to this.....that is a shame...I love welsh very much; and i can't exactly explain why, either! :D

  • @chicoutej well, people all over the world use english to communicate with eachother. but you are right, it had, has and will have an impact on many languages.

  • lol 3:50

  • English may be my native tongue, but I recognize the horribly damaging effect it is having and has had on minority languages and linguistic diversity in the world. The Welsh (and Quebeckers) are to be applauded for their efforts against the linguistic Goliath known as English.
