@Candice7 Because every citizen on trial for a crime has the right to trial by jury and this is the fairest way (they figure) of pooling a jury of the defendant's peers. You sit in a room, eventually you are called in before the lawyers, asked som preliminary questions for them to find out if either side could use you, if not eventually you go home. If so, you probably sit on a trial of some sort. They are sleeping in the waiting area, it's not like they're before the laywers or judge.

i do not understand that jury duty thing. Why must you do it? people are sleeping and not even paying attention. is that how it really is? waste of time i shall say
