Our fleet has suffered several hull losses from idle power or power-out operations. Pilots can acquaint themselves with the quirks of gliding to a water landing in this wonderful aircraft with its massive wing, high form-drag and top-mounted engine by practicing power-off patterns and landings.
Here, I do one idle approach from downwind perch to an uneventful touchdown; but, on the second try the bottom falls out and I no longer have flare energy. Were the second setup in response to an actual power failure, I might be swimming to shore!
