  • "...you're standing on my foot!!!" Hilarious! These guys were brilliant.

  • Even right off the cuff, these two giants of comedy show how it's done. Legends both and a real pleasure to see them on here.

    Thanks for posting.

Has anyone mentioned the year it was filmed?

  • Brilliant.

  • I'm sure they worked that bit of "your standing on my foot" in preparation for the newsreel, still it was utterly delightful to see and it always makes me smile.

  • What lovely sweet gentlemen

  • I believe it was 1949 when Standwick and Taylor mentioned the last time they had been to Europe was ten years ago.

  • @SatchmoSings Well put. A truly symbiotic, respectful relationshp of diverse characters; their individual comedic gifts creating magic genius, gluing them together. On YT there's a very good radio interview, (cant recall the name of it but it's a joy to hear).in which Stan describes how Oliver was into all you listed, yet his nickname was 'Babe' because he was T-total, very unusual in Hollywood- Stan.also explains how Olivers love of cooking was instrumental in them first being paired on film

  • @IdaSputum Hardy was precisely as you described, yet, as a performer, he gave it all he had and Stan totally respected and admired him this way; not only were they the personification of what they were known for on-camera, it's still amazing how two thoroughly different people could work unequivocally so well together and obviously did it with great relish and even pride and yet each go home to their own very different lives.

This is another example of what made them great people, too.

  • @SatchmoSings You summed them up very well from what little I've picked up from YT - also I heard that Hardy couldn't have been less interested in post-production and the behind the scenes work that Laurel liked, - Hardy was happy being a performer and leaving the rest to Stan. Pure gold those two.

  • @IdaSputum They had a superb professional relationship and got along very well personally though they were not really that close; they were two very different people.

Laurel basically worked out their routines and was totally in love with the whole process of film-making; he was also a good family man and his idea of relaxation was to go fishing.

Hardy, on the other hand, enjoyed race-tracks, gambling dens, cat houses and, obviously, a good meal!

  • No likes on this???, why have so many people forgotten about Laurel and Hardy? They are legends!!

  • What year was that. 1950s? R.I.P Legends. Charlie Chaplin, Laurel and Hardy and Norman Wisdom. I may only be 17 but always loved the oldies.
