Why couldn't Israel host or even participate in the 1980 Eurovision Song Contest?

Una magnífica canción!!

@deloufu Well, the word "Hallelujah" means "praise G-d" in Hebrew, and its origin is in the book of Tehilim (Psalms) written by king David. The song's lyrics, however, are about gratitude but are modern. For their translation - search for "Diggiloo" site.

It was also Israels rememberance Day ( 19th Aprtil)

Yeap usually the winner hosts the next contest, but in 1979 Israel won the contest again after winning in 1978. Their budget was gone on the 1979 contest, and so they invited other broadcasters to take over, the Netherlands finally had the honour.
