what is the colors of the resistor?

The resistor's value is 470Ω, or yellow-violet-brown. If using a voltage supply that is less than 9V, you may be able to get away with a smaller resistor value, but 470Ω is usually a good "safe" value for limiting current to your average LED.

Beautifully explained by a young lady who is a refreshing change from monotoned boring males! An absolutely fascinating video for this Englander who is off to try bread boarding post haste.
