One of the first opens for NewsCenter 4, a simple text animation with a beeping ticker(with the electronic version of the NBC signature chime). They also have two sponsors for the newscast, mentioned in the opening (AmericanAirlines,Barney's).
Chuck Scarborough anchors - he's been with WNBC since the early 1970s.

  • @Newz4la Tom Snyder DID do News Center 4 for sometime, but not to embarrass you, did you not see the sports logos on the screen next to Chuck. That was Marv Albert.

  • Was that Tom Snyder with Chuck Scarborough? Or was it someone else?

  • The last out of that World Series was when Ron Cey of the Dodgers pop fly to Yankees catcher Thurman Munson(R.I.P number 15).

  • With Chuck Scarborough about to celebrate his 35th anniversary as chief anchor of WNBC-TV's local news in April -- and with rumors abounding that he plans to retire -- it will be very interesting to see what old NewsCenter4 clips will be aired next month.

  • As did the NBC radio and TV networks, right up to the early 1980s.

  • This newscast was taped right after the Yanks won game 6 to clinch the 1978 world series.

  • 1975 to 1979

  • Now that NBC has issued a restored box set of SNL 1975, sure would be nice to have a set of restored NewsCenter4 newscasts to

open'em with. And how 'bout a restored set of the Chip Monck show "Speakeasy" that followed SNL at 1am? Any trace of that relic?

  • Wait...I noticed this newscast was filmed during the 75th World Series, which ran between October 10-17, 1978. So, it was sometime during that week, probably October 17.
