Using the Sony Alpha A55 digital camera for youth football

I had a chance to try the new Sony A55 digital camera at a youth football game. This video shows images done with the A55 in the 10-frames per second burst mode while using the Sony 70-400G lens. Images are right out of the camera - no cropping, editing, or sharpening. It just goes to show you, anyone can get great photos from their child's game.

I would go with the 70-300G. Not as much reach but a better price point.

You'll love the 70-400. It's a big large but great for outdoor sports.

I've just been using the IMovie software that comes free with the iMac.

Haven't tried any of the others.

There is a period of writing after you take the burst. I didn't keep track of how long that was.... nor did I try and shoot during the writing period so I'm not sure if it would take more photos or not.

By the time the football team was ready for the next play, the camera was cleared and ready for the next play. I didn't have a single situation where the team was ready but the camera would not fire.

Lol. The lens you had on that camera is 2x more expensive than the body itself. Nice shots, though.

Is there another lens which might not be so expensive but great for sports/action photos?

I'm curious to know if perhaps you're able to go on the "cheap side" and get the Minolta equivalent of the 70-400G

Was the sound recorded with the in-camera-mic or did you use an external one? Besides the noticable wind noises sound was pretty ok though.
