On 1 and 2 March, the Rolls-Royce stand will also debut 102EX, a one-off, fully electric powered Phantom that will serve as a test bed to gather a bank of owner research in 2011. This will be crucial in informing future decisions on alternative drive-trains for Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.

102EX will undertake a global test programme that takes in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and North America. Through test drives, owners will be given the opportunity to experience an alternative drive-train technology and to feed back their experiences, thoughts and concerns directly to Rolls-Royce.

There are no plans to develop a production variant, but Geneva will start a dialogue with existing owners and stakeholders, posing as well as answering questions of its audience. Comments will be collated through the web portal www.electricluxury.com that will also chart the car's progress on tour throughout the year.

  • ? perfection or compromise? both yes it would be awesome no noise lot of tourch but 3 meter range /-:

  • @tenki1 thats not the problem batteris have problem giving a little plastic boxs long range how are you supposed to give a 2.5 ton rolls royce long rang it possible but not with todays batterys.

  • This is cool. The only problem with this is how do we get a simulated petrol-engine sound.

  • @Nihsel101 That must be why they only use electric engines on trains.

  • @9295446san Obviously a time traveller from the future, she's got hidden depths your mum.

  • @hoosnation Well you could always replace an ICE with another of a later model.

  • @hoosnation - Dear Rolls Royce: Please send a vehicle my way for test. I promise to give great feedback. :-)

  • Electrics are the only engine capable of giving maximum torque at 0 RPM, making them more powerful load pullers than even diesel engines. Furthermore the electric motor and regen technologies have both matured. The weak point in this design will always be the battery. If there is a generational leap, one can easily replace a battery - making it the first ever upgradable vehicle. And there will be less money and weight spent "silencing" the motor. Bring it on, baby!

  • good and picture
