I instantly knew I was one of those people who you were describing. When I have ideas they always tend to be grand in the tasks they tackle. This creates a self defeating environment with monumental goals that can't be possibly achieved on day one of launch. Even if they somehow were possible the cost and time wasted on unproven "features" seems counter productive. Breaking things up to the smallest pieces they can be and started today is vital. This will be a paradigm shift for me, thank you.

Haha, l'm loving these videos Derek, keep them up! My favorite part of this one was "if you're not embarrassed by your first version you've launched too late" or something to that effect, that's so true!

Your advice about following your path, not impersonating others' dreams, and knowing when to give up are all great advice. No doubt, those things made you successful. One key thing though, is that many people aren't able to do it if they have a negative mindset that's ingrained in them. "Talking to Yourself" by Pam Butler is a great foundation for priming one's mindset for internalizing successful habits. I highly recommend it!
Derek, I think your awesome, I watch a lot of your talks, and hope to meet you one day ... yada yada. But I was a little disappointed to hear you were emailing credit card information. :-( ... for anybody who doesn't know, email is incredibly insecure and credit card info can easily be sniffed out.

@bulwarkjm2 Yep. That was 1997. And I was only getting about 1 order a week. So I guess it was under 100 orders, and luckily wasn't a problem. Glad I fixed it soon, though.

Hi Derek what you say in this video really speaks to me as i have tried and failed a few times on various projects trying to get some sort of "service" business of the ground. the main problem i find is that people tend to gravitate towards these large scale companies and it hard to get the ball rolling would you agree its harder for small busisness/ideas to get of the ground now and do you have any advise that may help?

@krautmouse Hmm... some would say it's easier for a small company to get off the ground. You can just start doing things immediately instead of trying to raise funding. Yes, some people graviate towards large companies, but there are enough who do the opposite.
