My parents belonged to the Salvation Army - Dad's mother's involvement beginning when they helped the family following the death of her husband. As a youngster, I played in the Barking YP Band, leaving when I was 16 years old.

I'm sure that Dad remembers the troublesome, rebellious youth I became at this stage of my life but I grew out of it - albeit that I took a completely different path from that point on.

The march, 'Alderney' was one I remember regularly playing the solo cornet part for - though not in this recording.

The day at the seaside - I think Folkstone was a day outing with members of Barking S.A.
