I lived in a farmland area near Everett, WA, when they were flight testing the 747. They'd fly right over us, rolling from side to side, standing it one one wingtip then the other. I mean it was just barely less than vertical. I can see why people used to be proud to be American. Of course now, with the 787, all we do is final assembly- its design and components come from abroad.
