This song is an old one which is about a Steel Drivin Railroad Line Worker which died after beating the steam engine at the famous Tunnel for the Railroad Line called the Virginian (later Norfolk and Western Railway-took Virinian through a Merge) and later this same railway became the current Norfolk Southern Railway system. This tunnel is can be found on an ole line of track between the Town of Mullins and Sofia W.Va. This is known as John Henry's Tunnel. The reason I know where it is for sure is this--- I as a young man worked for the Norfolk and Western Railway and had to lay new Track Ties in the same tunnel in the early 1970s.

  • Brilliant!

    10 Stars!!

  • Hee hee!

The original John Henry lyrics were about the voracious sexuality of an African American man

But naturally, the Euro-Calvinists in America had to censor it!

  • John Henry worked for the C&O Railroad in southern West Virginia.
