Handel: Life of a Pop Icon

This unique documentary marks the 250th Anniversary of Handel's death: April 14, 2009.
George Frideric Handel (1685-1759) was the first musician to become a pop icon. His hits like, 'Hallelujah', 'Sarabande' or the Coronation Anthem 'Zadok the priest', which re-emerged in the Champions League Hymn are ear-catchers all over the world and his musical genius and business acumen were brilliant alike. His personality was as eccentric as it was mysterious. His life story abounds in amazing anecdotes -- he was, by the way, the first composer in history about whom a biography was written.

The film is a high-class documentary consisting of 60% re-enactment which show dramatic and hilarious anecdotes from Handel's life including historic personalities like Italian cembalo virtuoso Domenico Scarlatti, German composer Johann Mattheson and opera diva Francesca Cuzzoni and spooky quack John Taylor.

The re-enactments are embedded in the story of Handel's life, filmed at original locations in Germany, Italy and Great Britain, which combine to make this powerful and witty documentary.
