While so many herald the work of Louis Pasteur who originally proposed the "germ theory" back in the 1800's, Pasteur had a basic flaw in his theory. Claude Bernard focused on the body's internal environment, as being the regulator to "trip start" pathogenic disease. On his death bed, Pasteur condemned his own theory saying "Bernard is right. The microbe is nothing. The environment is all important"
