Dear Friends:

Our Conviction Integrity Unit in Dallas County thoroughly reinvestigated this case, tested the biological evidence and based on the results, concluded Cornelius Dupree did not commit this crime.

For 30 years Mr. Dupree claimed his innocence, and today Mr. Dupree had his conviction overturned.

Advocating for change in the justice system

This is our opportunity to make a change for the justice system in the state of Texas. I will need your support as I present the following issues to lawmakers in the forthcoming legislative session; 1. Require a DNA sample for every arrest made
2. Reform eyewitness identification
3. Require law enforcement to video tape confessions
4. Develop a standard for retention and storage of evidence
5. Extend student loan forgiveness to prosecutors

The legislative session begins January 11th. It is important that with your support, I present these issues to lawmakers to ensure citizens are safer in Dallas county and the state of Texas.

Will you stand with me today to make sure the innocent are protected, and that the guilty face justice?
