@foresure88 Actually, Lu Chen won the 1997 Karl Schaffer Memorial which served as a secondary qualifier for the 1998 Olympic Games for those who didn't qualify in the traditional way by finishing top 24 in Lausanne the year before. The top 6 skaters from countries that didn't already qualify were then granted places in Nagano. Szewczenko's place was actually earned by Eva-Marie Fitze at the Worlds the year before, and her withdrawl in Nagano had no direct effect on Lu Chen's place in Nagano.
@TonyWheeler Yes I believe your right. I heard it from the commentators because Lu Chen's spot wasn't fully guaranteed but she was able to pick up some points in some other events during fall to qualify.
@foresure88 Not exactly. Chen earned a spot back for China at a competition in the autumn of 1997. Szewczenko's withdrawal was late and therefore there was no replacement for her.
She finished other performances much better. In 1994 she was 6th at the Olympics and 3rd at the World Championship. She won the German championship 3 times, placed 2nd twice and 3rd twice. She has landed as many as 7 triple jumps in a single competition, but this wasn't it.
Since a few years she´s an actress in german tv. Since 2006 she plays a figure skater, who become world champion. In November 2007 she skated at holiday on ice. This was her comeback.

I think she would of won Bronze like Chen Lu. Because of her flu, Chen Lu was able to get her spot and replaced her at the Olympics.

Great performance from Tanja. Pity that she didn't get to skate at the Olympics again. I wonder where she would've placed if she had been well.
