Try filling a 5 gallon bucket with sand and putting your plugged mortar into that. Works everytime(and who knows, if a salute flowerpots the sand might just reduce your risk of injury by absorbing the blast).

thats happens when you shoot mortars on grass tends to jump ..i advice you that you try to make the mortars base a little more heavier..and of course try to dont set of a mortar on grass ;)
