This is an extract from Sign a Song a funny and useful DVD collection of ten nursery rhymes that are acted out and signed using the Signalong total Communication System. Signalong combines normal slow-paced spoken English with simultaneous signing of the key words. Meaning is further reinforced by facial expression and body language. While Signalong's signs are usually based on British Sign Language, which was developed by and for the deaf community, Signalong has been developed to improve the communication of those with learning difficulties and language problems. Fluency in Signing usually precedes fluency in speaking- the director and producer of Sign a Song's twin daughters, who appear in the video and whose development has not been delayed, were able to sign "more milk , mummy" five months before they could say it!
