  • If anyone is curious about Phil Loeb, you can see some of his work as Jake Goldberg in the film "The Goldbergs" that was produced by Columbia on You Tube. I don't know if Gertrude Berg wrote the final film script, but it is certainly a real picture of Jewish life in a New York City neighborhood like the Goldbergs lived in.

In one scene, Jake is asked by his accountant how much more rent he'll have to pay on a new space, he answers, "a little more. . . Twice."

  • To recount how a talented and respected friend was smashed and driven to a suicide in a nightmare time, this actor definitely expresses the rage, frustration, and fury of a passionate man railing against the indifference of the world.

  • Performance comes off, for the most part as over the top.

Love hearing the material, and the makeup works.

Maybe because it's shot live with only one camera, -- it's very tough (or impossible) to act for an audience AND the camera.

  • I love this show. A sensational performance and wonderful script.

  • Great!!

  • Great makup.

Pretty good impersonation and a couple of revelations. I didn't know that the incident in the Front where Hecky steps out the window was based on Phil Leeds. I knew it was based on someone.

I also knew that Getrude Berg changed casts and location venue to the suburbs to tone down the Yiddishkeit.

    Kudos.

  • I hear you are trying for an autumn 2009 New York opening?

  • Brilliant! When is the Broadway run?
