A masterclass conducted by Peter Greenaway at Lovebytes 2005, Sheffield UK. One of the most influential film-makers of the 1980's, Greenaway has always been excited by the possibilities of new technology in creating art and moving image in particular. Here he discusses the Tulse Luper Suitcases Project and outlines his vision of a digital future for film.

During the festival, for the first time in Europe, all three parts of Peter Greenaway's Tulse Luper Suitcases were shown. This vast project encompasses films, DVDs, books, installations and a network of websites and opens up a new chapter in cross-platform experimental moving images and storytelling.

This talk took place at Lovebytes 2005. Saturday 16 April 12.30pm

  • @clrk "fascination, intrigue, have already , curiously been broken "

  • Every time that i hear him speak i feel that i am in the future.

  • Mr. greenaway....what to say....a guy like this who never adapted to cinema and never understuod his power(of cinema) to create storys who really touch us...thats is just like a persn who never adapt to society and for that reason destroy everything structure, who is this guy to say that cine is dead!?

  • @clrk "have already curiously been broken"

  • he's been to romania on wednesday. an absolute god. a

  • Traditional cinema experience is here to stay, however hollywood will die.

As great as hollywood has been, its control over production & distribuion, has put up huge barriers to artistic driven filmmakers producing films and reaching their audiences. I'm sure there have been a plethora of brilliant films that never found distribution that we will never see.

Cinema wont die, its too good. Its just going to have to leave the hands of business and return to the ppl & artists from once it came.

  • I don't suppose that you'd post the rest?

  • @ZeroWolf1985 They can. They don't have to, however, The Godfather, Citizen Kane, and so forth. They can, of course, be cheap, crass commercial products, but the allowance of resources, etc. can make great films too. Sturgeon's law, I suppose.

  • What's the word he's saying between 8:06 and 8:07 ? "fascination, intrigue, have already ... ? ... broken "
