A tribute to my Mum, condensed from family home movies spanning 6 decades. Cut originally to "One" from A Chorus Line (her favourite musical) it's since been audio-swapped with a medley of old show tunes (The Lady Is A Tramp, My Funny Valentine and Johnny One Note) so as not to breach the YouTube copyright rules.

This is the companion piece to "Dad" at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nVcVXNmn_iQ

  • Oh my...what a wonderful video. I don't know how I stumbled across it but I'm glad I did. How lucky are you to have such wonderful footage of your beautiful Mum? What an adventurous life she led!

  • @melkingcat I'm glad you stumbled across it too! It's been 3 years since anyone graced Mum's favourite video with a comment, and the first since I replaced the original score. It warms my heart to know her sense of adventure comes across to a stranger. Although I see you live in Melbourne so, since Mum was a Melbourne girl too, it's probably appropriate to think of you as a neighbour!

  • Well, since I'm in the neighborhood, I may as well revisit this gem! Don't think I ever mentioned what a bonny baby your Mum is... what with that adorable full head of dark hair and winning, winsome smile... so sweet. Love that you start and end with her as a baby. :-)

  • Well, thanks for dropping by again!

Amazing, isn't it? She had that same head of hair her whole life- one which I seem to have inherited it too- coarse strands apparently. Also, like you, I'm very fond of that Helena-as-baby finale, with her whole life seemingly sparkling in those eyes. (Though Mum herself said she was probably reacting to food!)

  • Thank you for sharing this wonderful montage of your Mum. Such a fun spirited lady and the song is great. I had watched A Voyage on Svanen a few times before viewing this video and was impressed that she still remained cheerful, even when sea sick. Such an infectious smile.

  • That is all the more flattering on this bittersweet Mother's Day, Dave. Your mother's spirit lives on inside your heart and in your profoundly loving tribute. I'm sure I would have liked her as well...

  • Ouch!

  • I had to wait till I was 21 to get a V8 Mustang, and it wasn't a classic like yours, it was an '85 GT. And just like Mum, I had to leave it in the States when I came home after just 2 years. You're a lucky man!

  • I'm glad you got to this one, Jim, since it's the companion to "The Gambler". Yes, we did feel lucky to have Helena around, although we often took her for granted, and she did, like any woman, have a dark side.

I ache to think of you losing all those family photos & home movies to your ex, especially the shots of your classic Mach 1 Mustang! Mum's '66 did look the part, but it was only an inline 6. She wanted to bring it back to Australia, but alas, some loves in life must be left behind.

  • Yes,Dave that feeling is also "Wonderful "

  • Thanks for sharing it by watching it, Mehmet! We both feel strongly about our family history, don't we?

  • Wonderful Video ,thank you evry much Dave for sharing.
