Full head cast done with Platsil Gel-10. This is merely an overview of the process. I skip over some of the basic steps that are the same with alginate. This is a fairly ambitious process so start small and get the hang of the materials before you try a full head.

FXman, the "important" was just for you. Thought you might like to see it as well as hear it.

Here's my latest blog entry on the subject:

  • Just wanna say I love your videos and find them very inspiring. I cant wait to make a full head mask but my only problem is that I can only afford 2 pounds of platsil gel-10 right now. :( Do you think if I used it sparingly in the back of the head I would have enough to make it sturdy in the front. would that work? Thanks.

  • @daboognish88 Depends on what type of mask you are making. If you are on a tight budget small prosthetics with Gel-10 are the way to go.

  • Sorry, I have yet another question. What would you use to strengthen a mask? A material (strips) to lay onto the material while it's still tacky. Can I use nylon strips? Like pantyhose? I need for it to be fairly tough in addition to lifelike.

Thanks so much for the vids!!

  • @Yanninyree Both Gel-10 and Gel-00 are plenty strong on their own. Panty hose in key areas will add some strength but if you over use it you will reduce the stretch.

  • How many rolls of plaster bandage were used in this lifecast? You had mentioned before 2 2lb kits (total of 4lbs of gel 10?) is that correct? Incredible video btw you guys are amazing.

  • @scarboroughdiver85 I recommend about 6 rolls of 4" plaster bandages. We did use just under 4lbs of silicone and that will give you very good coverage on an average size head.

  • @CalebaKing Yes, but it is still a good idea to use a little vaseline to aid in demolding.

  • can you just apply striaght to skin, if you are shaved c ompletely

  • @jorgealexmr Call us. Sounds like a mixing or contamination issue.

  • @brickintheyard Can I ask you another question?

Maybe im mixing wrong the Gel 10 cause when i mix it and pour it, when it sets off it get very sticky instead of getting dry to make the cast, any heads up?
