@dlkraft01 it was 1996 when I 1st heard this song!!! I didn't know what it meant xd!! I was 6 a that time, besides, I didn't even speak english!! but now after the love of my life has left!! I can totaly relate to it!! I get ur words too!! it is one of the most beautiful songs of all time.

In 1968 was when I first heard Otis Redding sing this song. It was right after the love of my life left. Every single word applied to what I felt. That was 43 years ago and no other song has ever touched my soul the way this song has. Still my favorite after all these years. Still love you Jim.

When I hear this, I think of my first love... I was 17 when I met him and it took me 2 years and the war in Viet Nam to realize I was in love with him. When he came home the walls shook. Although I'm happily married and adore my husband, when we bump into each other every 4 or 5 years we both know we each still carries a little piece of the other's heart and this song says it all.
