http://www.ProCPR.org / http://www.ProFirstAid.com Most students who are required to attend a CPR class are very reluctant to attend. The primary reason for this reluctance is due to fear. People tend to have five fears related to rescue.
5. Fear of Disease:
This fear has been around for some time, and can be solved by ordering a Key-Ring or other accessible CPR shield and protective gloves. That way, you're always prepared for the worst of circumstances.
4. Liability:
Since the 1985 Good Samaritan Act, there have been No recorded cases against a Good Samaritan since 1985. Don't be afraid to try to save a life in need of saving. You cannot hurt someone that is already in danger of dying by doing SOMETHING to save their lives. Even Hands-Only CPR is good for something.
3. Unsure of Skills:
Understanding that CPR only slows down the progress from clinical death to biological death, will not stop it! We know any number combination during rescue breaths to compressions will help buy time for EMS to use an AED and ALS to administer medications. The numbers are guidelines, not the rule. (Which is part of the reason why Hands-Only CPR has become such a popular alternative to rescue breathing.)
2. Might Hurt or Kill Patient:
This goes hand in hand with number three. The person is already dead. How much worse can the patient physically become?
