R.I.P. Tucky... All your dog and cat brothers & sisters love you much too..

Tucky was taken to the ER on June 26 @ around 11 PM for labored breathing, not eating, really not him himself..The test came back and he was anemic (normal blood count is suppose to be like 22% he was like 12%) and his heart had an irregular beat (that was nothing new to us seeing as we knew he had a funky heart beat since he was born.. So they gave 2 options, try the medicine, or just start with the blood transfusion + medicine after.. we wanted to try the medicine first..
June 28 we took him to see his normal vet and he asked if there was any change.. we said pretty much not so he suggested the blood transfusion thing or to be put down right then and there..Technically its my grandmothers cat & she didnt want to do the blood work as it wasnt a guarantee that would work... She said to put him down.. well that didnt float for us so we took Tucky to the emergency vet were they would administer the treatments.. as we were there they did as xray to see what was wrong wit him, and they found out that he had a lot of liquid in his lungs..after the xray they put him in an oxygen tube thing to help with his breathing... apparently the first time he went there they didnt xray him.. So they told us they would extract it, run some tests in the mainland to see what it was.. so we left him there so they could do it all..
About a few hours later on June 28, they called and said 70 CC's had been taken out and he was out of the oxygen thing freely breathing on his own.. the vet said she was pretty certain he had something that she said was treatable.. but there was another thing she thought that wasnt treatable.. They took another blood test she said and his blood count went up to 20% and wasnt 12%.. so the lung was causing the anemia..
June 29, they called around 6 pm saying the lung had filled up and they extracted only 10 CC's of liquid, which was a good thing because all day it hadn't had that much to fill up, so they were going to see if he could go home tues on monday till the tests came back... '
The next morning, June 30, about 9:50 am, they called my mom and told her he went into some kinda shock heart attack, due to stress or something, his heart only stopped for maybe a half a min or so, but they got him back and for about 10 minutes there were manually keeping his heart pumping.. they gave my mom the option to put him down or keep treating.. my mom said she thought about it and she didnt think his heart was strong enough.. seeing as they would have had to put him on a heart machine cause his heart wasnt going on his own. They didnt know if he would make it on his own w/out the heart machine so she said to put him down..they said as soon as they stopped pumping his heart for him, he was gone.. they also said he put up a strong fight..

Even though we only had him for about 3months, reason why not so many pictures, and had a little rough beginning where he would hide, run and hiss a little from us lol, he warmed up to be a nice funny cat.. And will be missed among family..

  • i feel ur pain. My cat Storm died a couple years back. I woke up 1 night to see him shaking and making gurgling sounds and i knew that meant he was having a heart attack. so we got him to the pet hospital where he went on life support and a day later he was back to normal. they said he suffered no permanent damage and he would be fine. 1 year later He had the same type of 1 and died in the pet hospital. i was with him at the time of death. It sill tears me up inside thinking bout him. Bye Storm

  • I do understand your pain. I had Lucy for 16 years and 2 weeks. She was our "first" daughter and the light of our life. On March 30th, 2004, she suffered a heart seizure. We took her to the pet hospital and she passed away at 10:00 a.m. on March 31st. Here it is, nearly 5 years later and there's still the emptiness without her. Folks who don't think cats are able to bond have never loved one. Tucky was very fortunate to have you to care. God bless you for sharing this.

  • My cat suffered the same fate, the Xrays showed large amounts of liquid in his lungs plus tumors in his kidneys and chest. We put him down after seeing the Xrays since he was already sedated and comfortable.

  • i am so sorry! :(

  • I know what that kind of pain is like...I thought I'd nearly lost one of my cats recently. She went out for a few days and came back miraculously. She doesn't seem to have stopped purring since. I know the pain of losing a loved one...Keep up the hope.
