Alumni Award of Honor -- To receive this highest of honors, one must make a truly outstanding contribution to the College or to the Alumni Association. Billy Silcox has done just that for over 50 years -- since he set foot on this campus as a freshman and became one of our all-time great tennis players. However, those who know Billy well, know his love affair with the College began with his father and mother (Willard and Mary Silcox, both Class of 1933). The Silcox blood truly is maroon.

After graduating from the College with a degree in biology, Billy became the College's tennis coach and in 1983, led the women's team to win the NAIA National Championship.

The demands of a growing family led Billy to leave the coaching world and enter the insurance business and today he is president of C.T. Lowndes Insurance.

Tennis has always remained close to his heart however and today Billy can be seen traveling with our women's tennis team to all of their matches, encouraging them at practices and becoming a mentor once again to another generation of CofC tennis players. He has spearheaded the effort to build the Tennis Alumni Weekend with great success. It must be that maroon blood coursing through his veins!
