Changing of the Guards at the Royal Palace in Stockholm summer 2001 (first part)

The Royal Guard has been guarding the King of Sweden since 1523. The duty as Royal Guard is performed by different military units from all over Sweden, in 24 h intervals. Each day at quarter past noon (quarter past one on sundays) the guards are changed in a ceremony in the outer courtyard of the Royal Palace.
In the summertime the ceremony is preceeded by the relieving unit marching through Stockholm in a parade led by a military band.

Changing of the Guards Ceremony:

1.The guard unit to be relieved is positioned, waiting, except for the sentinels on post.
2.The Band has lead the parade through Stockholm from the Army Museum, approaches the court yard and enters. March: March Past of the Svea Life Guard (Ille Gustafsson).
3.The drum major salutes and stops the music.
4.The relieving guard unit makes a Left-Halt in front of the unit to be relieved.
5.The band position themselves in the "band pocket" of the yard and come to a halt.
6.Trooping the colours. The units and the drum major salutes the flag. The flag bearer marches. Music: Svenska Arméns Paradmarsch (Carl Braun).
7. The units greet eachother. Band plays relieved units' march: March Past of the Royal Svea Life Guard. Band adjusts its positions.
8.The units gets ready to switch positions. A patrol to relieve the sentinels posted around the castle is set up.
9.The relieving and the relieved units switch places. The band plays the march past of the relieving unit (also March Past of the Svea Life Guard). The patrol to relieve the sentinels marches off.
10.The band plays the regimental march of the relieving unit: Regimental March of the Royal Svea Life Guards (W. Körner). The drum major thanks the audience for applause by saluting with his staff.
