Collier Swecker video blogs about the accuracy (or lack thereof) of Zillow.com and its Zestimate home appraisal program. There are many Buyers and Sellers in the Birmingham Alabama market that utilize Zillow.com to research Birmingham homes for sale and use a feature in Zillow called estimates that basically guesses what all of the homes listed on Zillow should be worth. This service is not even close to being accurate because it really relies on public tax appraisals as the main factor in its formula and as we all know the tax assessors are not interested in being accurate in today's market of declining prices. Zillow's search features and information resources are some of the best that the real estate industry has on the Internet today. I am partial to our team's website, but think that Zillow's website is a good option for Buyers and Sellers who don't pay attention to the Zestimate aspect of their website. If you have any comments or questions about Zillow and its Zestimates, email me at Collier@MegaAgentRealEstate.com or visit my website at www.MegaAgentRealEstate.com.
You are spot on about Zestimates, they lack the important and current information to give a real estimated value. The other problem is zillow lacks transparency with their ethics. Zillow gets away with unethical antics only because they are listed as a medias web-site company. Zillow needs reform, allowing their top contributors unfair advantages and the open path to slander others is wrong.
