Now if you want to know more about this true story, check the whole movie Prayers for Bobby (2009) or read the book it was based on, Prayers for Bobby: A Mother's Coming to Terms with the Suicide of Her Gay Son (1994), by Leroy Aarons. The main events of Bobby's fight for acceptance happened around the 1980's, when prejudice against gay people was greater. But the significance of his life and death spreads thenceforth, with Mary's crusade to help the LGBTQ community along many others.

I always get mad after watching this film...It's just unbelieveable, what a mother can do to her own son, just because she thinks, its against the nature,or against, what god wants. I'm thinking about doing a project, maybe a presentation, in my class at school. Lucky me, my classmates are really tolerant, but sometimes they are ignorant. They don't see discrimination. Maybe this film will open their eyes.

I'm straight...but even i can't believe that even in this day and time parents can't accept their children for who they are? i mean how could you carry a baby within you for approx 9months and not love them for who they r? i makes me sick that some ppl r so f***ing closed-minded...i my oppinion love is love no matter who ur in love with.

Hey my sweet friend, this is Bobby Griffiths' old lover/boyfriend "Blaine" here, and I thought I'd share with you that I did see the "Real Mary Griffith" lats July, at an event awarding the first ever "Bobby Griffith Memorial Scholarship" and she's still strongly committed to the safety, well being, and happiness of LGBTQ youth, and all young people for that matter! It will in fact by the year 2013, be 30 years since her sons' passing!

The really sad part of being gay is that nearly all gays have straight parents that really don't understand what being gay is really like or what it means. I believe God has a plan for every person born and it is instilled in the child's genes at conception. God doesn't make mistakes. Men make mistakes.
