Two of the monologues that I used for a program called YoungArts. Both these monologues have been reworked and had problem areas fixed, but I decided to put this up anyways!

1st - House of Blue Leaves, John Guare, the role of Ronnie
2nd - The Merchant of Venice, William Shakespeare, the role of Lancelot Gobbo.

(I apologize for the logo that says "Evaluation Copy", it is the best I can do until I get it officially converted from DVD to .WMV format.)

  • Kyle, it's funny you should say that. I just finished my first semester as a freshman at OCU as an Acting major, and boy did I ever learn about honesty.

The feedback is wonderful. Time to break high school habits, and move towards making genuinely honest, and creative theater.

  • Thanks! I appreciate the feedback! All of the things you said -- I have worked on since that video was done a few months ago.

I'll be posting more videos of shows I've been in as times goes on -- I'd love to hear more constructive criticism!

  • I completely agree. You have a lot of potential, but I had the same problem in theatre. Your characters are entertaining to a point, but they aren't believable.

You have very slight differences in levels, very little subtle work, and your energy is too much overall. Your characters look too busy on stage. Have you ever seen anyone act that way in real life? Maybe you have, but I haven't.

You are also showing a lot of maturity in your willingness to accept criticism. Don't lose that.

  • You are trying way too hard.

When you say "you gotta do things to get parts" and you started dancing and singing? It doesn't come as a surprise or character revelation because you have been dancing around the stage up until then.

Less is more. Even in theatre.

  • not bad keep it up

  • Awesome job! Your energy is great-- too much in some areas, but it's way better to have too much than too little, as I'm sure you know. Way easier to tone down than to bring up. =] The main thing you've probably worked on since then is contrasting the two characters, which I think is more important than toning down the energy because if you use two monologues in a competition or something, the thing people are really going to look for is 2 completely separate characters. Great job though. :D

  • Omigoodness! That was amazing, my jaw is down to my hip! haha. :D Wow, you're gonna go somewhere in your life with acting. You're great.

  • you are so good!

  • Wow you did a really good job. Some things you can try and work on is contrasting your monologues. The characters you did are really diffrent people so show that in your actions. Another thing I would do is change your levels a bit more and don't always use your hands, but overall you have a lot of talent! Keep up the good work!
