I don't see anything in the article indicating that it was specifically a board-mandated decision. As the author put it, it was merely a 'horses for courses' selection policy. The team felt Randiv gave them a better chance to win that final because Mendis hadn't done anything against India after his first couple of games in 08.

@FlyingPig1902 thats from islandcricket. c o m, one of the few sports media outlets from sri lanka that, come to think of it, put this matter very lightly, considering the political implications of openly criticizing the government-controlled board. and they're right. mendis had a decent world cup, and randiv just didnt perform in the final. he should've been given the chance, but the Board decided they knew better. Sangakkara... well, he and the board never saw eye to eye on the selections

@FlyingPig1902 mendis wasnt used in the final because some dickhead up at our board had that particular opinion. Just because he was "figured out" by batsmen doesnt make him useless. Every bowler gets "figured out" eventually. Stop parroting stuff you hear in the media and come back with something original to say.

In this match he proved to be a mysteriously dangerous bowler to the top and middle order batsmen. But tailenders like Ishant played him much better. They stopped the ball 2 foots before reaching to the pads and getting any turn.

Mendis is trash. Once batsmen figured out that he doesn't turn a single ball and bowls stump to stump, they started smacking him around. Sri Lanka didn't even the balls to play him in the World Cup final, and this was after he played throughout the entire tournament.

I'm an indian and i feel playing ajantha mendis in final in a stiff run chase would have made things difficult for India.
